Superior Diocesan Council of Catholic Women ~ SDCCW
The Superior Council of Catholic Women exists to help the
women of each parish meet the needs of their parish, priest, and community. The Diocesan board works to help each parish council flourish by providing guidance material, spiritual development and personal support. We provide guideline manuals to help the parish council to function. information  Our commissions and chairs disseminated information to each parish council through our semin-annual newsletters. We connect the parish council to the broader community from the deanery to the diocesan to the national level. We provide days of reflection and an annual convention to help in the spiritual growth of the women in the diocese.We have resources available on line to facilitate the individual councils.  We support their efforts by staying connected with them through prayer and through personal contact.

Our Lady of Good Counsel Prayer
God of heavenly wisdom, you have given us Mary, Mother of Jesus,
to be our guide and counselor.
Grant that we may always seek her motherly help in this life
and so enjoy her blessed presence in the life to come.

O Mother of Good Counsel, patroness of the National Council of
Catholic Women, intercede for us,
that we may be wise, courageous and loving leaders of the church.

Help us, dear mother, to know the mind of Jesus, your son.
May the Holy Spirit fill us with reverence for God's creation,
and compassion for all God's children.

May our labors of love on earch
enhance the reign of God
and may God's gift of faith and living hope
prepare us for the fullness of the world to com.

Amen.

OUR MISSION
The SDCCW is about being involved with a group of faith filled women who live out their Catholic faith and values through action.  It is about a group of women united for the purpose of building God’s kingdom on earth.
We are a member of the National Council of Catholic Women (NCCW) http://www.nccw.org and are recognized by the United States Council of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) http://www.usccb.org

NCCW MISSION STATEMENT
The National Council of Catholic Women acts through its membership to spport, empower, and educate all Catholic women in spirituality, leadership, and service.  NCCW programs respond with gospel values to the needs of the church and society in the modern world.
THE PARABLE OF THE PEARL OF GREAT PRICE
It is a privilege to share the gift of Council with everyone I meet. Friendships are bonded when stories of Councils are shared with one another. Becoming a part of the National Council of Catholic Women as an Individual Member is like holding a rare and precious gem in your hand. Its brilliance catches the eye and touches the heart. The more the gift is shared the more radiant and valuable the gem becomes.  Discovering the value of membership in the National Council of Catholic Women reminds me of the Parable of the Pearl of Great Price in chapter 13 of the Gospel of Matthew: vs 45 – 46. Jesus told this parable to emphasize how precious the Kingdom of Heaven is, and one should be willing to give up everything they have to possess it.    Every day we have opportunities to love and praise God and share that love and service with others. One such opportunity is joining NCCW as an Individual Member. See the attached membership brochure.

 Reflect
Each year, on the Second Sunday of Easter, the Church celebrates the Sunday of Divine Mercy. In the 1930s, Jesus appeared to a humble Polish nun, St. Maria Faustina Kowalska. As Jesus continued to appear to St. Faustina, she recorded His messages in her Diary. On one such occasion, Jesus said to St. Faustina, “My daughter, tell the whole world about My inconceivable mercy. I desire that the Feast of Mercy be a refuge and shelter for all souls, and especially for poor sinners” (Diary, no. 699).
When recalling our sins, we may feel discouraged or fearful of approaching God; however, we can cling to the truth that Christ's Passion on the Cross did not end in death, but in the joy of the Resurrection. The miracle of Easter gives us the courage to face our sins, confess our mistakes, and then humbly receive God's forgiveness and accept the joy that comes with new life in Christ. In His infinite love for us, God desires nothing more than to wash away our sins and offer us His mercy. He has a prepared place in His merciful heart for each of us, and no sin is bigger than His power to forgive.
No matter how we have fallen, the Resurrection of Christ is an assurance of hope. Christ’s mercy is constantly available to us, if only we reach out to Him in faith and confidence through the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The words Christ revealed to St. Faustina, He also speaks to us: “Lay your head on my shoulder, rest and regain your strength. I am always with you” (Diary, no. 498).
Excerpts from Kowalska, Maria Faustina. Diary of Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska: Divine Mercy in My Soul. Stockbridge, MA: Marian Press, 2000. Used with permission of the Marian Fathers of the Immaculate Conception of the B.V.M.

Act (Choose one.)
  • Pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy at 3:00 pm (the Hour of Mercy), with the intention of healing for all suffering from involvement in abortion. How to pray: usccb.org/divine-mercy-chaplet.
  • Jesus spoke to St. Faustina, “Reveal all the wounds of your heart. I will heal them” (Diary, no. 1487). Seek Christ in the Sacrament of Reconciliation and allow His healing mercy to reach every hurt and hidden pain.
  • Offer some other sacrifice or prayer that you feel called to do for this month's intention.
One Step Further
Learn more about the experiences of those who suffer from having participated in one or more abortions and how you can be a messenger of God’s infinite mercy: usccb.org/bridges-of-mercy.
If you or someone you know suffers after abortion, know that nonjudgmental, compassionate help is available from experienced clergy and laypeople through the Church’s diocesan abortion healing ministry, most often called Project Rachel Ministry. All who suffer from abortion can find a listening ear, comfort, and help. Visit www.HopeAfterAbortion.org or www.EsperanzaPosAborto.org to find help near you.

Dear friends and prayer warriors,
Thank you for your great work of praying!  We are seeing God move mountains and we know it is in part because of your prayers!  Please join us in praying for the following:
~For the hearts of our patients/clients:
Patients on medical side - to see and value life, for courage to choose life and for those who have chosen abortion to reach out for abortion recovery.
Clients on the family support side - we have so many clients who are struggling with big things. And we also have some who are very open to the Gospel.  That also includes some very young parents who are so thankful for the support and education.  Pray that God will move mountains in their lives, break the chains that are binding some of them and reveal Himself to them. Please pray specifically for two of our dads who are struggling with some significant mental health challenges, a mom who is trying to quit smoking, and two of our couples who are struggling to maintain shelter and heat.
~For the staff who work with clients/patients - especially our nurses:
We have had a couple of rough weeks with one patient we couldn't get to come in who chose abortion, one we thought was choosing life and ultimately chose abortion and several hard miscarriages to walk with women through. It was a reminder of how important it is to be praying for our nurses and other staff that work directly with clients.  Please pray that God will guard their hearts and minds and that they would trust Him when the outcomes are hard.
~Please pray for our budget.
In order to prepare for the consistent increase in clients/patients, our budget is going up.  God has always provided for this ministry through our donors and we are trusting Him to provide again!
Praise God that our construction project is done!!!
We will be having an open house on February 6th.

Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Life
The Response is: Mary, pray for us.
Mary, Mother of all Life,
help us to respect human life from the moment of conception
to the moment of natural death. R.
Mary, Mother of Compassion,
You showed us how valuable a single life can be;
Help us to guard and protect the lives of all people entrusted to our care. R.
Mary, Mother of the Child Jesus,
with St. Joseph you formed the Holy Family.
Guard and protect all families in this earthly life; R.
Mary, Mother Most Holy,
You sanctified the vocation of motherhood;
Pour out your heavenly aid on all mothers and help them to be holy. R.
Mary, Mother of Sorrows,
Simeon’s prophecy foretold that a sword of suffering would pierce your heart;
Bring comfort and hope to all mothers who suffer over their children. R.
Mary, Full of Grace,
You had a choice in responding to God’s call;
Help us always to say “Yes” to the will of God in our lives,
And strive always to do whatever he tells us. R.
Mary, Comforter of the Afflicted,
Pour forth your heavenly grace on all who are in need of God’s healing,
Especially those involved in abortion;
Help them to experience the love and mercy of Christ, your Son. R.
Mary, Intercessor and Advocate,
We lift up the poor, the displaced, the marginalized and vulnerable members of society;
Help them to never abandon hope, but to place their trust in the God who gave them life. R.
Mary, Mother of the Word Incarnate, you bore in your womb him whom the heavens cannot contain;
Help us to bear witness to Christ by the example of our lives
And show the world the extravagant love of God. R.
All:
Remember, o most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, we fly unto you, O Virgin of virgins, our Mother. To you we come, before you we stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not our petitions, but in your mercy hear and answer them. Amen.

Dear Friend,
 Word on Fire receives countless messages from our supporters each month asking us to pray for family members and friends who have fallen away from the Church. As we enter into the month of May, in which we place a special emphasis on the Church’s relationship with Mary, I want to challenge you to participate in a unique prayer challenge.

This month, I’m asking you to join us in praying 10,000 Rosaries for the intention that those who have fallen away from their faith may return to the Church with a renewed understanding of God’s love and mercy.

Click here to log your Rosary on our website so we can track how many Rosaries have been prayed. The web page includes a map showing the location of those who prayed to serve as a visual representation of the reach of this endeavor and as an encouragement for others to participate.

Evangelization must be grounded in prayer. The Rosary is a powerful contemplative practice that quiets the mind and draws us into the depths of our faith. United around this common intention, we can pray specifically for the people we know who have left the Church, and also ask for the strength and wisdom we need to be effective evangelizers in our families, workplaces, and communities.

Thank you for joining me in this effort, and may God bless you.
In Christ,
+ Bishop Robert Barron

P.S. Send a photo of yourself with your Rosary to [email protected] or text it to 224-985-2790 and we will share it on our social media channels. Thank you for praying with us!
