Superior Diocesan Council of Catholic Women ~ SDCCW
The Superior Council of Catholic Women exists to help the
women of each parish meet the needs of their parish, priest, and community. The Diocesan board works to help each parish council flourish by providing guidance material, spiritual development and personal support. We provide guideline manuals to help the parish council to function. information  Our commissions and chairs disseminated information to each parish council through our semin-annual newsletters. We connect the parish council to the broader community from the deanery to the diocesan to the national level. We provide days of reflection and an annual convention to help in the spiritual growth of the women in the diocese. We have resources available on line to facilitate the individual councils.  We support their efforts by staying connected with them through prayer and through personal contact.

Our Lady of Good Counsel Prayer
God of heavenly wisdom, you have given us Mary, Mother of Jesus,
to be our guide and counselor.
Grant that we may always seek her motherly help in this life
and so enjoy her blessed presence in the life to come.

O Mother of Good Counsel, patroness of the National Council of
Catholic Women, intercede for us,
that we may be wise, courageous and loving leaders of the church.

Help us, dear mother, to know the mind of Jesus, your son.
May the Holy Spirit fill us with reverence for God's creation,
and compassion for all God's children.

May our labors of love on earch
enhance the reign of God
and may God's gift of faith and living hope
prepare us for the fullness of the world to com.

Amen.

May 10, 2022

WASHINGTON - In response to the leak of a draft opinion in the U.S. Supreme Court case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, some abortion advocates are calling for nationwide demonstrations, disruptions of church services, and the personal intimidation of specific Supreme Court justices. Archbishop José H. Gomez of Los Angeles, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) and Archbishop William E. Lori of Baltimore, chairman of the USCCB’s Committee on Pro-Life Activities invited the faithful to unite in fasting and prayer:

“In the midst of current tensions, we invite Catholics around the country to join us in fasting and praying the Rosary on Friday, May 13, the Memorial of Our Lady of Fatima.
Let us offer our prayers and fasting for these intentions:

·     For our nation, for the integrity of our judicial system, and that all branches of government be dedicated to seeking the common good and protecting the dignity and rights of the human person, from conception to natural death.
·     For the overturning of Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey in the Supreme Court’s final decision in Dobbs v. Jackson.
·     For the conversion of the hearts and minds of those who advocate for abortion.
·     For a new commitment to building an America where children are welcomed, cherished, and cared for; where mothers and fathers are encouraged and strengthened; and where marriage and the family are recognized and supported as the true foundations of a healthy and flourishing society.
·     For Our Blessed Mother’s intercession and guidance as the Church continues to walk with mothers and families in need, and continues to promote alternatives to abortion, and seeks to create a culture of life.

As Catholics, let us witness to the beautiful gift of life with civility and love, and with our peaceful prayers and our compassionate service to all those in need.

Our Lady of Fatima, pray for us.”

1. Many churches have a May Crowning Ceremony of Mary with the placement of a crown of flowers on her head or adorn her with flowers. Flowers symbolize beauty, love, joy, perfection to detail and individuality! Flowers adorning Mary can also be placed on the statues of Mary you have inside or outside your home.
2. Pray a Novena to Mary:
A novena is a specific prayer recited for nine consecutive days for a particular intention. Novenas can be prayed at any time a special request arises. Novenas are especially prayed nine days prior to a feast day to which one has a favorite devotion, ending on the eve of the feast. Below are three novena prayers to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, any of which can be prayed in May during the Month of Mary, in August during the Month of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, or prior to the Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (the Saturday after the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which occurs on the Friday after the feast of Corpus Christi).
NOVENA PRAYERS TO THE IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY
Glorious Virgin Mary, I long to love your Son, Jesus, the way he deserves to be loved—with the love of your Immaculate Heart. Unite me to your Immaculate Heart so that I will be open to receive your Son with the same dispositions by which you received him. Your Immaculate Heart is supremely gentle, steadfast, watchful—completely given over to the will of God. Lead me out of the darkness of ignorance, free me from all selfishness and willful self-assertion, and train me in conformity with your Immaculate Heart.
Let me always trust your Immaculate Heart as a true source of grace and mercy. In Let sharing in the Passion of your Son, your Immaculate Heart was pierced. May your immaculate love embrace me in moments of suffering. I beg to make reparation for all offenses against your Immaculate Heart as I offer you my intentions (mention your request). Amen.
******************
O Most Blessed Mother, Heart of Love, Heart of Mercy, ever listening, caring, consoling, hear our prayer. As your children, we implore your intercession with Jesus, your Son. Receive with understanding and compassion the petitions we place before you today, especially ... (mention your special intention).
We are comforted in knowing your heart is ever open to those who ask for your prayer. We trust to your gentle care and intercession, those whom we love and who are sick or lonely or hurting. Help all of us, Holy Mother, to bear our burdens in this life until we may share eternal life and peace with God forever. Amen.

3. Pray or try to Pray the Rosary daily. Learn of Our Lady’s 15 Promises to those who pray her Rosary.
4. Learn about a Marian Devotion. There are many associated with miracles, apparitions, saints, and holy images.
5. Learn about the appearance of Our Lady to St. Catherine Laboure and gave her the vision of the Miraculous Medal in 1830.
6. Become invested in the Scapular. The most common scapular is the Brown Scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel which has special prayers and graces associated with it.
7. Spend some time reading a book about Mary, learning a new prayer, song or read the encyclical on the Month of May written by Pope Paul VI in which he describes how the faithful reserve the month of May to honor Mary in a special way. Check out the reference listed below.
“For this is the month during which Christians, in their churches and their homes, offer the Virgin Mother more fervent and loving acts of homage and veneration; and it is the month in which a greater abundance of God’s merciful gifts comes down to us from our Mother’s throne.”
Pope Paul VI goes on to say that May is an opportune time to let our petitions fly to Our Lady—especially for the needs of the Church and the whole human race—that most urgently require our Blessed Mother’s intercession.

8. Learn about the many titles and images of Our Blessed Mother. They help us to learn of the virtues of Mary and how she can be present to all of us.
Let us try to spend the month of May, learning about Mary and learning from her how to love God more fervently and to love one another as her Son loves us.

I just wanted to reach out about a new way our parishes can support Abiding Care and all pregnancy centers.     They are starting a prayer initiative with many of the churches throughout our area.  They will be putting out prayer requests throughout the year and asking churches to pray for them.
Please pray that Abiding Care and other centers would be ready for whatever the Supreme Court decision in June on Roe V Wade brings - that they would be ready to serve in whatever capacity needed and that they would be ready for whatever attacks/backlash may also happen - that God will help them to respond with truth and grace.

Please pray for wisdom as they revamp and relaunch their Abortion Recovery program to reach more women.  Pray that those who need this ministry will be moved to receive the hope, healing and forgiveness available to them.

Please pray for clients making pregnancy decisions.  Pray that God will use our conversations and information to move their hearts to see the beauty and value of life.

Please pray for a national summit that Abiding Care's director is speaking at on the Abortion Pill, as they raise awareness to other centers about the horrors and consequences of the new abortion pill regulations.  Please pray for protection, a clear message, and for centers to be able to work together to meet this unprecedented challenge.
